What were you thinking?

Websters were one of the few breweries whose flagship brew was not a bitter - it was a light mild in their case.

For some reason when I was playing Sunday football in the 80’s my first thirst quenching pint after the game would always be a Websters Yorkshire Bitter Shandy?? What on earth was I thinking….

That bear campaign was a massive hit for Hoffmeister. Their shit lager was a big seller.

So yes, that ad at the time was the perfect way to sell beer to grown men.

What's your point?

Re: How to sell beer to grown men
What year was that advert? I'd guess about 86.

Piss awful beer no doubt.

My early forays in the world of illicit beer drinking in the park were Royal Dutch (cheap, known as Royal Ditch for good reason) and Trent Bitter (cheap, available in 2 litre plastic bottles and purchased without difficulty at the age of 15). Preferred Trent Bitter.

Once I'd sussed out which pubs would serve me as a 16 year old I was into IPA and Ruddles. I always looked older than my age so it was normally my responsibility to lie at the bar when asked. Happy days.
